With moisture being the most critical component of the life of the termite and the cellulose from wood. Their system is an extremely delicate and well balanced moisture, fungus, and sandy soil inhabitant as they flourish and destroy wood as they move through their tunnels to find the source of wood.
The female will lay 6-12 eggs and the nymph will begin eating the wood. This process takes 2-3 years and the damage may be significant.
